Drink your coconut, and use it too (for glowy dewy skin)

Drink your coconut, and use it too.

In philosophy Occam’s razor states “The simplest answer is usually the right one,” and in the age of laboratory made variations of anything health and beauty this couldn’t be more right.  Have you ever looked at the ingredients in the back of your moisturizer? It’s scary. Considering your skin is the largest organ in the body, it is already taking daily abuse from daily stresses such as lifestyle, or external factors such as pollution and invisible rays coming through the sky. We need to consider what we are putting on it, not contributing to the damage and this is where sometimes the simplest thing may be the best.  Coconut oil, two words one ingredient.
“Sometimes the simplest thing may be the best”
Who doesn’t love coconuts? They look so cute, have amazing electrolyte properties to drink, smell fantastic for scents such as room sprays or perfume, coconut oil is a great option for cooking and now can be used for skin and body care.  It is easily accessible and a relatively inexpensive option for self care maintenance, we’re going to cover how you’re steps away from glowy, dewy, hydrated, beautiful skin.

How to choose the right coconut oil

Oil processing is an important component of selecting plant oils for skin care.  Cold pressing is the best as it is heat and chemical free, which preserves beneficial lipids and prevents irritating byproducts. Virgin unrefined coconut oil (VCO) is best and has tested for highest antioxidant levels.

Why is it good for skin?

·      The beneficial lipids are why coconut oil works so well, they help the skin stay moisturized with the fat preventing the loss of moisture through the skin’s pores.
·       Its antioxidant properties help in anti pollution defense, and also decrease wrinkles and reduce fine lines.
·       Has no volatile components that can irritate skin, but rather it is an oil that is entirely soothing.

Where can it be used?

·       From a skin softener and moisturizer, you can also use it on your lips, hands and feet, unlike store bought moisturizers it contains no alcohols or silicones.
·       You may use it as a makeup remover without harsh chemicals worrying about delicate areas such as around the eyes.
·       It can be used to help even the most sensitive skin disorders such as psoriasis, and eczema (which if paired with a facial cupping massage that can also help the same conditions) and can be used as a double strength approach combatting them.
·       As a soothing alternative to shaving cream, while shaving.
·       Vitamin E component.  100 g of coconut oil has 0.1 mg of Vit E.
·       Proteins that aid in cellular health and tissue repair leaving your skin glowy dewy and reverse signs of aging.
·       Home made deodorant
·       Massage oil (that can be paired great with a cupping massage)
·       Reduce appearance of stretch marks (cupping massage can also reduce appearance of stretch marks in a combination with coconut oil)

Who shouldn’t use coconut oil?

The jury is still out on weather it helps acne sufferers or makes it worse.  Clinical research is conflicting but it is certain that 1. Coconut oil is antibacterial, and bacteria can cause acne breakouts and 2. Coconut oil is an occlusive moisturizer (it will trap moisture by clogging pores) and clogging pores can cause acne. So for these reasons people with acne prone skin should consider using another oil such as Jojoba.

Instructions for use

·       You can put a little on the palm of your hands rub your hands together then apply it on the targeted area, remember a little goes a long way.
·       DIY whipped coconut butter -You can take one cup when it is hardened, break it up into chunks, put in stand or hand mixer and mix on high until it fluffs up and is whipped.  Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and scoop it into a container (tip lime or citrus pairs great with coconut scent) Store in fridge.

Takeaway:

·       Skin is the largest organ of the body so take care of it and pay attention to the ingredients of topical products.
·       Coconut oil can be used as a moisturizer plus can be used for many other things such as a makeup remover, anti aging cream, and it has good antioxidant and Vitamin E properties.
·       It is fairly safe to use for all skin types including eczema and psoriasis though acne prone skin should be careful.
·       You can beat it with stand mixer to make your own coconut whipped butter body cream and add essential oils to make it smell extra relaxing or yummy.
