What is your skin type, and how should you be caring for it.

With the launch of our Solairs Pro facial cupping tools we want to pay homage to skin types and clarify what each type is so next time you’re with your esthetician and they ask you, you can be clear and they can decide the best treatment for you. We have also included a simple routine for each that you can incorporate to treat and maintain it.

Normal Skin Type – ( Well aren't you lucky) your skin isn’t particularly oily or dry, doesn’t have any serious issues such as anti aging, bumps, skin discolorations, sensitivity or acne issues that you want to address. Just because it is normal though, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care of it.  Think about it like if you’re a normal body weight you may still go to the gym and watch what you eat to prevent weight gain, it is the same for your normal skin type: you want to maintain it.

Care: Use daily cleanser, toner and antioxidant/vitamin serum, moisturizer and SPF.  Use exfoliant weekly.

Bonus: Glycolic Acid Serum.

Note: Glycolic acid is an Alpha-Hydroxy acid that due to its small molecular structure is able to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin enhancing top layer of skin cells to fall off and fresher ones from deep inside to be pushed to the surface.

Dry Skin Type- Your skin may feel particularly dry or tight on most or all areas of the face. This can be due to genetics, lifestyle, sun damage, and your health but the great news is research has shown that you can turn your skin to moisturized, supple, healthy skin by following the following regimen.

Care: Use daily cleansing lotion, toner, hydrating moisturizer, Vitamin A (retinol) and eye cream.  Use weekly Face Oil and Hyaluronic acid.

Bonus: At home peel.

Note: Your dry skin is due to dead cells and tiny skin cracks and an at home chemical exfoliant can dissolve dead skin allowing fresh cells to come to the surface. Will drinking water hydrate your skin? No clinical evidence showed that it makes a difference however, a study in Clinical Cosmetic Investigative Dermatology showed that it can make a difference, however it has to be more than 8 glasses per day.

Oily Skin Type- Oily skin is genetic, totally out of your control but don't worry because you can change it. Your skin has larger oil glands and sebum content. Oily skin breeds bacteria and is more prone to breakouts below are some suggestions for care.

Care: Use daily cleansing gel, toner, AHA/BHA serum, Vitamin A (retinol), and light moisturizer. Use Weekly Clay Mask, Gentle Exfoliating Peel.

Bonus: Extractions done by a professional esthetician.

Note: Clay masks tend to be drying, after a use it will keep the oiliness at bay for several days.  Vitamin A (retinol) has been clinically proven to improve any skin issue especially oily skin.  Purchase yours that is over the counter and start by using twice a week then working your way up every other night in alternation with an exfoliant.

Sensitive Skin Type- Delicate skin that gets red and irritated easily luckily how to calm and diminish the appearance of flushing is now well established in a nutshell you're the princess and the pea.

Care: Aiming for fragrance free use daily cleansing lotion, alcohol free toner, and moisturizer.  Use Weekly Gel mask.

Note: Gel mask has a cooling effect making it perfect to calm inflamed skin.

Aging Skin Type-  Aging is a beautiful process, embrace it and care for your skin accordingly. You have signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines, possibly age spots, your skin needs repair and lift.

Care: Use daily cleansing lotion, physical exfoliation, toner, hydrating moisturizer, and retinol serum.  Use weekly at home peel and face oil.

Note:  At home peel will reveal fresh skin, face oil is nourishing with anti aging properties.
